Araldica Barolo Flori 2010

A great bottle of foreign wine for pizza this weekend is this Araldica Barolo for ~$30. Seriously?! Barolo which tends to be in excess of $80! Very suspicious, this can’t be good no? But look. imageThe quality of wines carrying the Barolo name have a flag to fly. I’ve had the 2009 before and it was good enough for me to be curious about the 2010 release.

This old vine Nebbiolo is aged for 2 years in large 8000 litre oak casks before 12 months in bottle, and it’s worth considering all that time when paying. Medium+ ruby color, it has a dense fruity aroma with a savoury mineral edge. Ripe strawberry, leaves and cranberries, soft oak staves. With a soft weight body, ripe tannins and alcohol standout. Lovely cherry syrup, cranberry flavours with that sappy finish. Great with pizza, or some salumi and roast vegetable with goats cheese salad. Drink now. 88.
