Ranco dei Tassi Clic Bianco IGT 2010, Venezia Giulia, Italy

2013-04-28 21.34.08

The Venezia Giulia is in the most North Eastern region of Italy, bordering Austria and Slovenia, to the south is the Adriatic Sea. An interesting region due to its varying terrain with Northern Alpine mountains to the Southern Central and coastal plains. Friulano (not the Canadian cheese, not Tocai Friulano but Sauvignon vert), Chardonnay and Riesling fruit from vines up to 45 years old are contracted from the Collio,Colli Orientali and Grave appellations. Hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel and undergoes partial malolactic fermentation. The wine is a pale yellow colour with a green tinge. An attractive youthful aroma with refreshing notes of orange blossom, kamquat spritz and Pink lady apple. Dry, medium bodied wine, medium acidity and 12% alc. Lovely clean flavours of apple, baked lemon and waxy lime leaves. This can be enjoyed with oysters kilpatrick, or chicken coriander omelette. Drink now – 2015. 89/100.
