Tardieu-Laurent Cotes du Rhone Villages les Becs Fins 2009

2013-04-16 19.51.41

This wine is a good bargain for AUD$23 from Nicks Wine Merchants and Cloudwine, but Winestar have it for only $15 on a 3 btl minimum buy! A grenache (60%) and syrah (40%) blend, the grenache fruit comes off 60-year old vines, and the syrah fruit from 20 year old vines. Completed in stainless steel vats so the wine is pure fruit. Intense dark crimson ruby color. A lovely dense nose with aromas of black cherry, licorice, spice and a hint of raspberry cordial. A dry, full-bodied wine, high acidity, and I am certainly getting all that 14.5% alc. There is a moderate level of rough powdery tannins, and this is really needed to give structure to the rich mouth feel. Flavours of dark cherry, blackberries, cranberries, a twist of licorice and saltish dark chocolate spice. A nice rounded finish, this wine goes nicely with meaty spiced dishes, Greek or Moroccan cuisine. Drink now. 88/100.
