Sine Qua Non The Pontis Rose 2008, Ventura, CA

Could there be a more appropriate wine to start off the Easter weekend than Manfred Krankl’s rose from the 2008 vintage, The Pontiff. A crimson colour that would have done Pope Benedict’s shoes proud, heady aromas of stewed strawberry, red berries, dash of cardamom. A full-bodied wine with a mind-blowing 15.7% alcohol, clean flavours of strawberry water, red currants, cranberry with a spiced finish. The richness of the flavours offset and partially hide the high alcohol content. Just like the recent exit, this Pontiff has seen its best years, so drink up. 91/100.
