Mandoleto Nero d’Avola 2011, Sicily, Italy

$14 from Cloudwine. Intense dark ruby colour. Youthful aromatic profile of blackcurrants, black pepper and spice. For me, there’s an inherent freshness as well, sorta like an orange orchard in warm weather when you can smell the fruit and leaves in the sunshine. A dry, full-bodied wine, high acidity sweeping from back to front. 13.5% alc, a medium level of tannins that offers a soft structure. Rich, pure flavours of blackcurrants, raspberries and spice. A very charming, easy-drinking wine. Drink now. 89/100.

This little number went very well with ginger and paprika marinated duck breast which I pan-fried over a small flame, served with stir-fried eggplant, peas and heritage tomato.
