$15 from Vintage Cellars. Clear, very pale yellow colour with a tinge of green. On the nose, the Sauv Blanc is present with a note of asparagus, then there is the more typical lemon fruit, almost candy-like. Dry, full-bodied white wine with plenty of racy acidity. The 13% alc is high for a white wine, but the 2011 was endowed with hotter than usual temperatures, so the fruit ripened much quicker resulting in the earliest vintage for the Margaret River. And plenty of sugars means higher alcohol levels during fermentation. Flavours of ripe melon, giving way quickly to saltwater taffey, tangy lemon fruit. A drawn out finish, the highly acidic nature of the wine makes it well paired with African spiced food. Drink now. 86-87/100
On a cool Melbourne evening, I had this wine with a cajun-dusted chicken tenderloin wrap with slices of heirloom tomato and grilled zucchini, sprinkled with Greg Malouf’s Egyptian dukkah.
