Matchbox Wine Co Malbec 2012, Clare Valley, SA

$30 direct from winery. Fruit from 1980 vines that was wild fermented in seasoned French oak puncheons. Intense inky purple ruby colour. Lifted aromas of violets, blueberry syrup and fresh pepper. A weighty wine texture-wise, like a whole ream of silk. Dry, full-bodied wine of high acidity and soft fruity tannins. A tasty wine, plenty of dark berry fruit, black cherry, blueberry, blackcurrant liquor, slightly savoury. Hint of dark chocolate on the finish. This would be great with a pork belly stew with rich sticky sauces. Drink now – 2015. 91+/100.
