Mauro Veglio Barolo Arborina 2007, Piedmonte, Italy

In an attempt to “move forward” and erase the utter disappointment of the 1997 Terra del Barolo, I sought out the 2007 vintage and was pleasantly relieved with my encounter with the Barolo by Mauro Veglio.

$70 from PWS, I bought this on sale at the St Kilda store just before it closed shop, website indicates retail price of $120. A clear, medium ruby crimson colour. Soft sweet florals of sappy cherry, kirsch and hint of mocha. A dry, full-bodied wine of smooth velvet texture. There is plenty of cleansing acidity, 14.5% alc. Rich fruity flavours of red and black cherries, red plums and strawberry leaf. Abundant dry tannins that are soft enough despite their youth to round off a nice finish. Drink now – 2019. 91+/100.
