Calendal Plan de Dieu 2009, Cotes du Rhone

$40 from Nicks Wine Merchants. A Philippe Cambie wine from a solid vintage, so that’s 2 ticks of approval. This is a Grenache / Mourvedre blend from an organically farmed vineyard, and the wine is aged in neutral wood before being bottled unfiltered. Clear medium+ – intense purple-ruby colour. Vibrant youthful aromas of blueberries, mulberry and pan grille. Dry, full-bodied wine with plush tannins and refreshing acidity. 15% alc. Clean, rich swath of dark berry and black raspberry fruit, hint of savoury chocolate on the finish. Pure flavours, with a long easy finish. A sleek, well-crafted wine. Drink now – 2015. Please do yourself a favour and enjoy this wine! 91/100.
