Karra Yerta Wines Bullfrog Flat Shiraz 2005, Eden Valley, SA

$30. Only 64 dozen produced. This spent 24 months in French oak, and is dense, black ruby in colour with a hint of copper on the rim. A seductive nose of dark, fleshy fruit with hints of hot stone, soft spice and chocolate wafer. This has distinct characteristics of a cool climate shiraz, it’s medium-bodied, matched perfectly with the right fruit weight and has a residual flavour of dried sour plum. I feel that the tannins are still resolving, so a revisit in 3-4 years will be necessary. This would go perfectly well with ash-baked chicken served with a side of fresh, icy-cold crisp salad. 93+/100. Tasted May 2008
